Western Reserve Big Band Features Local Talent
On Sunday June 22, 2025, our Hudson Summer Bandstand Concert will feature 23-year-old Saxophonist Colin Palmieri, a 2020 Hudson HS graduate who just finished his degree at University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). Colin performs in the music scene throughout the greater Cincinnati area. He is a rising music talent with various projects featuring himself on saxophone, piano, vocals, and composition. He will be the featured tenor sax soloist on several tunes in the program. Join your friends and neighbors as they perform two sets of big band music. Bring a chair or blanket to the Hudson Gazebo Green to enjoy this concert which starts at 6:30 pm. Rain location is the Hudson Middle School Auditorium.
This year’s concert will include a variety of big band music that covers styles from Glenn Miller’s In The Mood to Steely Dan’s Home At Last. We will play arrangements of music by Henry Mancini, Paul Simon, Sonny & Cher, Cole Porter, Horace Silver, Van Morrison, Irving Berlin, and Wes Montgomery. Vocalist and Hudson resident MJ Lehman will sing several numbers including Cheek To Cheek and Route 66. We will even include a big band version of America The Beautiful.
Hudson resident Ralph Meyer started the Western Reserve Big Band in 2011 as a sub-group of the Western Reserve Community Band he founded in 1997. This big band plays a variety of musical styles including classic/contemporary Big Band, Jazz, Pop, R&B, Broadway and repertoire from the Great American Song Book. This includes music from the libraries of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glen Miller, Jimmy & Tommy Dorsey, Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Les Brown, Bob Crosby, Miles Davis, Horace Silver, Oliver Nelson, Gordon Goodwin and others.
Our mission is to present all genres of big band music to a variety of audiences. We play venues ranging from night clubs to community festivals, private parties, country clubs, fellowship halls, fundraisers, retirement communities and assisted living/extended care facilities. We are available to play anywhere that calls for dinner and dancing to music, or a big band concert featuring music from the 1930’s to the present.
